“I love her and she loves me and MOMMY is her name-o!”
Eastern Christian Preschool students sang this refrain to their moms (or special female guests) last week Thursday at the Moms’ Valentines Tea event. Just a day before Valentines Day, nearly 90 Preschool students gathered with their loved ones in the Elementary School gym for a time to celebrate love.
The children were beaming and waving as the women arrived, eager to give their mom or special guest the beaded heart necklace they made in class. Then the adults and children worked together to color and decorate a valentine craft (a small jewelry box) that said “We know what LOVE is… because Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.”
Preschool director, Karyn Baitzel, welcomed everyone to this special event and read a sweet story entitled “I Prayed for You” by Jean Fischer. Many children snuggled in their mom’s lap while listening to the words the Mama Bear prayed over her baby bear. The children then serenaded the guests with a MOMMY version of the B-I-N-G-O song, as well as “If You Love Mom And You Know It” sung to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” It was fun to see the adults bond with their little ones by blowing kisses, and giving hugs and high fives. Everyone joined together to sing “Jesus Loves Me” and a special version of “Jesus Loves the Little Children” that reflects this year’s spiritual theme: “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Every child in every land, Jesus holds them in his hands. Jesus loves the little children of the world!” Miss Baitzel prayed to thank God for His amazing love for us, and the love shared between the children and their beloved guests.
And of course there were Valentine’s Day treats! While moms poured coffee and tea, the preschool students sipped on juice boxes, and everyone enjoyed delicious cupcakes and strawberries.
While it can be difficult for some of the Preschool students to say good-bye to their guests at the end of the event, that just goes to show how much they LOVE their moms, grandmas, aunts, and other motherly figures in their lives! Thank you so much to the women who took time out of their busy schedules to join our youngest students at school and spend some quality time with them.
