Each February, one of our quirkiest traditions take place: the Micah Challenge group holds a “Baby Bank Singers” fundraiser to raise money and supplies for a local ministry that provides baby supplies for mothers that cannot afford them. Students and faculty at the high school may purchase songs for friends or co-workers, and a group of Junior and Senior boys spends a day singing to the designated individuals in their classrooms. It’s a fun and energetic fundraiser that everyone seems to enjoy!

This year alone, the Baby Bank Singers have raised over $400 for the Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center. Big thanks to the singers and Anne Bazanowski for coordinating the fun. Cara Shotmeyer, Sydney Duga and Amanda Faber did a great job of organizing and leading the flock of singers.

This unique Eastern Christian Tradition began 10 years ago with Paul Beverly and his “Micah Challenge” group. The Baby Bank group was originally a ministry of Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church helping mothers who go to prenatal classes at St. Joe’s Hospital in Paterson. Around this same time, someone found choir robes stuffed in a church closet and the singers have been singing in style ever since. Here are some articles that trace the history of this fun tradition.
